Nos encontramos en una zona atlántica con fuerte influencia continental por las temperaturas extremas y muy ligado a la altitud (860 metros), factores que marcan una gran amplitud térmica e inciden positivamente en el carácter de los frutos y vinos conseguidos.
La Finca Valdeazadon tiene una superficie de 61 hectáreas, de las que 57 están dedicadas a la plantación y 4 a la Bodega y otras instalaciones. En sí, es una colina, dividiendo la Finca en dos partes; una orientada al Sur y otra al Norte; de esta manera se favorecen las corrientes de aire y, por consiguiente, se evita en gran medida el riesgo de heladas en primavera y, de enfermedades, en primavera y verano.
La plantación, dependiendo de los sectores en los que está dividida, mantiene diferentes tipos de terreno, predominando los arcillosos, calcáreos y arenosos. Los viñedos fueron plantados en espaldera, buscando los rayos solares, con los extremos de madera y los intermedios metálicos. Su altura es de 1,60 metros y colocados 6 alambres. El marco de plantación es de 3 por 1 metro, resultando una densidad de 3.330 plantas por hectárea.
El viñedo viejo
No podía ser de otra manera y, cuando nos enteramos de la existencia de un viñedo viejo de más de 100 años, en un entorno próximo al de la bodega, cuyas viñas iban a ser arrancadas, procedimos a su adquisición y recuperación. Los trabajos han sido duros y la paciencia requerida ha sido mucha, pero el producto conseguido ha merecido la pena.
Este viñedo de uvas tintas y blancas, está situado en el mismo pueblo de Mahamud y tiene una extensión de 2,3 hectáreas.
